Ignition/shifter solenoid woes after linkage incident

Let it be known; box wrenches are terrible for leverage when you can put a 18x3/4 pipe on it... Shaft is straight enough that the yellow plunger fully depresses and releases freely... What a dolt I can be when I'm mad. Thanks for putting up with this thread.

Ignition/shifter solenoid woes after linkage incident

Did not see that coming. I saw a thread suggesting putting a boxend wrench around the shaft and putting leverage on it. It's dark out, but now I'm curious... Brb

Ignition/shifter solenoid woes after linkage incident

Figured it out... The shifter assembly shaft is bent, and the plastic plunger in the middle is under too much friction for the spring mechanism to release it. Used pliers to pull the plunger up and the ignition solenoid released.... Completely my fault for pulling on the shifter when the handle...

Ignition/shifter solenoid woes after linkage incident

I know you didn't mean anything by it, but my "McGyver" repair was just taking a few tenths of a millimeter off of the edges of the generic linkage bushing I bought from AAP. Others drill out the linkage lever and attach it to the cable with a bolt/clevis pin setup. This is effective, as in, it...

Ignition/shifter solenoid woes after linkage incident

I created this thread as the combination of circumstances and symptoms are not like anything I can find elsewhere, and so that I could be thorough. A few weeks ago, my shift linkage separated at the bushing while doing a 3-point out of my drive away. When I went to put it in Drive, the trans...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Replaced a locked fuel cap. Not sure if it was leaking, but the locking mechanism in my fuel cap broke, so it would "lock" but a firm CCW turn would allow you to remove it without a key, making the lock worthless. Replaced it with another Stant.

What did you do to your GMT today?

I'll start it off this morning: It was pretty warm here yesterday, but it was very cold this morning. So I clicked my remote start while getting ready... Went outside, it's not running. Get in the car, key in ignition to Run... Just interior overhead lights and no dash lights. Jumped the...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Looking good, man. You have no idea how much I wish I had that hood lift kit installed when I was changing the serp belt last week. Kept elbowing the OEM hood prop while trying to loop the belt around the AC compressor pulley. It was also in my way when I was trying to fetch...

Honestly, I think one of these flex extensions would be useful once the bolts are loosened. All that said, I've never had an issue with using a 6" straight extension to get to the TB bolts. IIRC, I add a 3" extension on the ratchet end of the 6" just for extra clearance... I really should...

    Power inverter Ideas?

I always thought about mounting one under the driver or passenger seat with the plugs facing the rear, but also thought about mounting it out of sight (like under the panels in the cargo area, and running extensions to outlets in the panel using something like: Ultimately depends on your...

I don't think he meant cylinders, but the coil packs instead. If you don't have an extension, it's kind of hard to get a ratchet around the TB bolts because the coilpacks' connectors are in the way.

What did you do to your GMT today?

While not really part of my truck, it's related: I downloaded aCar and caught up on my records and set up reminders. I like it, but the UI is very cheesy/ cartooney, like an offbrand GPS.

All this manifold crack talk from you guys is making me wonder. :undecided:

Put a set of Trico NeoForm wipers on. 24 driver 22 pass and 16 rear. The rear one is getting stuck when it goes back to the rest position. Not sure what's jamming it yet, but I'm not entirely bothered by it since I don't use the rear wiper that often.

Can't rotate Idler Pulley, but belt can

By the way... Ow. Changing belts/pulley is really frustrating when the engine is hot. I will say that with the new idler pulley, I'm getting a lot more feedback in my steering wheel... Guess my PS has been suffering for a while. Interestingly, I discovered the belt on there was not the standard...
