About to install new TCCM in 2002 Envoy; anything to check first?

Hi, all. I have the classic symptoms of a bad TCCM: on start up, all lights light up on the selector switch, then go out after a second. I have purchased a used TCCM off of Ebay, an am ready to install it. If there are other problems with my transfer case (bad motor, sensors, stuck because the previous owners might not have changed the fluid often enough), am I going to risk damaging anything by installing the new TCCM and trying to shift the transfer case position?

Nope. But good question! The TCCM notices when a commanded action doesn't succeed, and tells you with flashing the switch light and lighting up the "service 4wd" dash light.

Thank you to everyone who responded in this and my other thread about replacing the TCCM on my 2002 Envoy. I finally managed to get the job done (our first child was born a few weeks after I started this thread, and I haven't wanted to strand us with just one car in case I screwed something up!), and it was a breeze. I pulled the old module, plugged in the new one, and I was in business. The only thing that was difficult was clipping the new TCCM in place under the dash; it was not at all clear where the black clip that supports the module is supposed to mate with the dash framework, but I managed to clip it onto something secure under there in roughly (maybe exactly?) the same place as the other one was when I removed the panel.

My truck is now 100% ready to tow our trailer for some camping this summer!
