AC in auto mode doesn't bring fan speed to max for extreme cooling demand

I can't find anyone with the climate control AC system to ask about this. In the winter once the engine reaches normal operating temp the HVAC system will bring the fan speed to maximum then taper off as it should. Conversely, on a 90 degree day like today, the system will not being the fan speed to maximum. My experience has only been with Ford systems and they operate that last way plus at either cold or hot extreme settings the blower motor will run continuously on max speed. Is this normal for a GM or could there be a failed sensor? Thank you.

Mine does the same. I would say normal.

Yeah, both my 9-7x and 02 TB does the same. In fact, even on heat in winter, it never goes to max fan. I always have to override it manually.

I would have to disagree with the others. My Rainier will go max on its own. You can even hear it switch to recirculate at times.

I can hear mine switch to recirculate as well but it never goes to full fan speed. I'm due for an oil change so will pose the question to my friends at Chevy. This was my first post do thanks for the quick responses! I've learned a lot about this vehicle and hope to be a resource to others here.

Hmm. Don't know if I've ever actually checked to see if it was full speed. Sounds like it is. I'll have to check that when I go to work in the morning.

It is never supposed to from what I know, heat or cool it should go one off max as per what everyone says. That is also if you set the temp to 60.

Neither of mine has ever gone into recirc on its own. The 02 TB will actually return to non-recirc on restart although the 9-7x will stay. I've also seen an 07 Tahoe with manual controls always return to non-recirc as well.

I do know that even on defrost, it won't go to max fan on auto. It's maybe a bar or two lower. I find that auto in the Saab is not as good as in the old TB. It doesn't adjust as the temperature in the cabin changes and have to do it all manually. I'll have to check if there is an update for the HVAC module.

02 Trailblazer. Auto controls. 2 bars away from max. Always have to override. Recirculate shuts off when restarted.
