air horns

whats up guys, I am looking for some ideas on where an air horn set up would fit on the truck.. The engine bay seems to be pretty packed and i am definitely not looking to put them anywhere visible. thanks

Was thinking about doing this myself. If i go and look for a spot, I'll post back here if i find something.

I was thinking about putting the tank where the old horns were, it looks like it should be big enough but i have measured it out... I feel like the bumpers are to flimsy to handle it ?

you wouldn't attach it to the plastic bumper you'd attach it to the metal underneath

i love my train horns , i have the trumpets attached under the rear of the truck from the well to the bumper and have the tank/ compressor inside the trunk where the storage well is , i will never go back to regular horns. make sure you get at least a 5 gallon tank and a minimum of a viar 150 compressor to keep refill time short

I have "normal" air horns and they are plenty loud enough for the info I want to get across to other drivers.

I mounted the little compressor where the factory horns sit and actually mounted the trumpets to the "inside" of the wheel well cover (for want of a better word). They are protected from any water and the only thing you can see in the wheel well is 2 nuts and a short bit of bolt.

They are certainly louder than mounting them in the engine bay.

The horns in that video were mounted in the rear I believe and they still had quite the effect.....on people!

I'm sure they would be loud in the back...

Curious to see what you end up doing, I never thought of air horns till I saw this thread.

I was looking at train horns with a buddy a couple months back and we both want em. As it turns out it's relatively expensive and involved. But REALLY REALLY cool!

idk what the max psi rating is on the air compressor for the load leveling suspension. I doubt it will do 150 but i wonder if you could get it to do 115psi how that would sound. could possibly work for a budget install, just add a small tank and cheap horns

Mine sucks ass trying get 50psi in a bike tire

You could always remove the spare tire give u some room to play. Buddy has train horns on his dodge. Scares shit out ta me every time and I know he is gunna do it

my compressor is horrible took 3 cool downs and 15 mins to fill two small dolly tires.

I was thinking of doing that, but with my luck once i remove the spare ill get a flat a week later and be screwed... I gotta take a look under the front bumper as someone suggested and see if i have space.. if not idk where to put them

My rainier has tons of room front bumper not sure about where put compressor the air suspension compresser is no good for this use im sure of. Might get a mouse squeek out of it

i have mine tucked up between the rear storage well facing backwards towards the rear bumper to keep water from getting in and to get the echo louder than they already are 180db

Seeing this reminds me of the time when the newly commissioned ship I was assigned to was "fast cruising" - pretending to be underway, cruising, while still tied fast to the pier. We had some maintenance to do on our forward radar directors (AEGIS cruiser), so we had to run an underway man-aloft chit since we were "underway". Run it, get all the signatures, make sure all the signs were hung and that the proper word was being passed on the 1MC (ship's announcing system). So my buddy and I go aloft (with harnesses, since we are "underway") and get strapped to a director. He's on one and I'm on the other, with the ship's whistle right between us, a little higher than our heads. We hear the word passed that "There are men working aloft. Do rotate, radiate or energize designated electronic equipment or sound the ship's whistle while men are working aloft." Not two minutes later we hear, "The following is a test of the ship's whistle." and they lay on that ba$tard. I get unhooked from the director and storm down the ladder to the pilothouse (these directors are directly above the bridge) and start going off on the Officer of the Deck (OOD) and JOOD and anyone else who would listen. I asked them what word was passed about 2 minutes before they tested the whistle? What sign is hanging on the ship's whistle pull handle? Where are the people who are aloft aloft at? Oh man, was I pi$$ed! Our ears were ringing for a bit after that.

looks like it comes with a couple relay.

take and post a legible photo of the face of the relay that has the diagram on it, and we can help you figure out a hookup plan.

do you want it on a separate switch, or to replace the function of the stock horns?

basically you treat the coil of the relay as one of the stock horns or wire to a separate switch, and use the activated normally open contact to switch from fused power to the compressor. the compressor should also connect to vehicle ground. second relay/compressor will be the same.

I already have a separate switch for it. My alarm is wired to my stock horn, I figured that would be more annoying than the siren. But I kno the basics 1 power 1 ground 1 trigger 1 to the horn.

I do need an inline fuse for the power? That's the one thing I didn't buy. And I'm sure I can just tap into the other wires because of the two relays

having a fuse in the supply to the relay is a good idea, either use a fused feed, or put one in.

and by that, I mean the +12 to the relay contacts for the horn circuit. your instructions should recommend a fuse size.
