Crank shaft seal leaking

Should my seal be flush with the end of my timing chain cover or a little recessed...it appears to have a small canal behind seal when flush with timing cover...I've replaced seal twice now and still leaking...

Look at a you tube video on installing the oil pan. It will show you how the timing cover aligns and also where to put some sealant on top of the oil pan where the timing cover hits it to eliminate that leaking point....
