My wife has a 05 trailblazer and it has at least one rod bearing that is shoot. I'm considering repairing the engine and putting the truck back on the road (she bought another daily driver). The tb is a 4x4 and I'm not sure if it's possible to pull the oil pan off with the engine in the truck or not. Has anyone ever pulled the pan off with the engine in the truck. If I have to pull the engine I'm thinking of just replacing it with a supercharged v8 if it's not to hard. I'm a heavy duty diesel mechanic so I have the know who just not used to working on smaller vehicles. Thanks for the help.

Theoretically you can do the swap, but the wiring is different as well as the PCM etc and it may be a bigger project than you're willing to tackle. It may be a better to s/c the I6...it's been done already but you'd only be the second one with it.

You'll need a donor 5.3L with the harness and tranny from another GMT360. The reason is our front axle goes thru the oil pan. Swapping to another engine will mean losing your front suspension, unless you want to go 350 and solid axle swap.

There is a t boned v8 EXT by my going for $3000. I've been tempted to buy it just to do the swap myself. I can use a number of parts on it for my rig. But last thing I need is another project with a kid due any day this month.
