drivers side brake/day time running light bulb not working and cruise control as well

I have tried switching out bulbs, ballasts and nothing seems to fix it. the plug looks fine, nothing burnt or dark. the wires are seated properly and not blackened by burning wires. I tested the wire itself and I believe it is the black wire is not getting any juice...im hoping that I do not have to run a new wiring harness for both sides and charge somebody an arm and a leg to do it, and that it will fix my cruise control issue as well.

my thoughts are that the cruise isn't working because the cruise disengages when the brakes are applied, so fixing the bulb issue will make the cruise problem go away. any suggestions and or diagrams are greatly appreciated. thank you in advance, as always.

on a side note, does any body remember what size socket wrench fits into the transfer case to change that fluid? I have a 1/2 inch socket set and just wondering if I need to purchase another set. thanks again.

PS, the vehicle I am asking about is a 2004 trailblazer LS non-ext.

You have me a little confused :undecided:, do you have a front lamp and a rear lamp that are not working?

The DRL lights are in the front and the brake, of course, is in the rear.

You may be right about the cruise control, let's get the lights working first.

it is the drivers side rear brake light. reverse works, and turn signal works. nothing out of the top bulb out at all. as previously stated, I changed the bulbs to no avail and changing the circuit board had no positive change as well.

The transfer case takes a 10mm hex. Not a socket - a male hex shaft.

Nothing in the rear has a ballast. Is that a separate problem - you have HIDs in the front and one of them is dark?

Is your CHMSL working? It's not directly related to this problem if your passenger side brake light works OK, but I'm curious.

I do not have HIDs in the front. by ballast I am referring to the board that the plug hooks into, and the bulbs click into for the rear brake/reverse/ and turn bulbs.

I am not sure what my "CHMSL" is? thanks for the clarification, as well as the TC information.

The CHMSL is the center brake light.

There is only one fuse for the L/R brake lights; therefore:

- if the passenger side works, the fuse is good, the brake light switch is good.

- if the bulb has been replaced, and you tried a known good circuit board, there is only:

- a bad connection at the circuit board, or a broken wire remaining.

You will need a volt meter to track it down.

the center high brake light was working, I had no idea there was another fuse box under the 2nd row seat on the drivers side. I put the wrong type of bulbs in for my turn signals in the rear and had the hyper flash situation...I ended up popping two fuses in that second box (park light 10amp, and daytime running light 10amp) which resulted in the cruise automatically being kicked off.

epic face palm on not knowing where the second fuse box was

not to worry, just having a little fun at your expense.

HAYNES might not have helped, if it showed 2 sets of contacts, yes it would have helped; if only one set and a splice, it would have only added to the problem.

You did the right thing, you got under there and looked. Good job

I know you were, I was adding insult to injury...

I looked under the hood and saw the small fuse box and thought that cant be it...then I started looking on the sides of the dash which is where my s10 had it and nothing, so I poked around on youtube and found out that it exists under the rear seat and then started poking around in there. on a side note though, I found out where the sunroof fuse would be if my TB had a sunroof, so I now know where I can wire up either a rear cargo area 12v plug so If the need arises I have one back there, and Im thinking about tucking it in the right rear compartment, not having it hang loose, but screwing it to the wall inside there, or maybe hooking up a rear view camera for dedicated key on power through there?...im still working out the bugs in my design process. first things first though...make the check engine soon light go away...im hoping its the gas cap issue as my filler neck is not stock and was replaced by the dealership for spilling all over the previous owner when filled up. I plan to plug the scanner into the obd2 port tomorrow if fixing the cap in the am doesn't make it go away...im sure i'll be back with a code for you guys to help me decipher. AFTER READING THE HAYNES
