Okay guys, I've searched on here, and perhaps my "searchfu" has gotten weak, but I can't find what I'm after. I really want to eliminate my DRLs, and while going I would like to:

1)kill the DRL function
2)retain my auto-on lights at dusk
3)not mess with my 6-hi mod (which is AWESOME) done by 06Envoy's diode method in the under hood fuse box
4)retain the OEM functions of everything (the reason I went with the diode method for 6-hi)

Anyone know how I can do this? Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated!

I just turn mine off via the knob. You just turn it back (t's spring loaded) and they go off-problem solved!

This is how my DRL killer is setup. You'll need a 4 or 5 pin relay, some wire, and connectors/wire taps of your choice. Here's the quick and dirty version.

Get access to your BCM under the rear driver's side seat, locate the PINK wire with the WHITE stripe and cut it clean through. (make sure you leave plenty of wire on either side of the cut as those ends will get connected to your relay) Make sure it's not the RED wire with WHITE stripe. You'll need to connect the following pins on the relay to the following wires at the BCM.

  • Pink with White stripe (pin A5) BCM side, relay pin 87
  • Pink with White stripe (pin A5) harness side, relay pin 30
  • Tap into Pink (pin E7), relay pin 86
  • Attach relay pin 85 to 12v + positive source.

Here is how you change fogs to DRLs

If you leave the fog wire alone and just hook a relay to the headlights it'll get rid of DRLs altogether and just have the lights come on when its dark

Edit:just saw blckshdws post, pretty much the same idea, you can use my pics in the link to locate what wires blckshdw is talking about

This is what I do now, I was just after a more "permanent" solution so I don't forget and cause undue burning of my Silverstar Ultras

Thanks! This sounds like what I'm after, I like quick and dirty.:rotfl: Just to clarify before I start hacking on wires at the BCM, this DOES keep the OEM functions and the only thing it does is kill the DRLs, correct?

Thanks, I know pics will be helpful to a visual learner like me! I like the fogs as DRL idea, think that looks pretty cool from the pics of yours, but I'm after killing them altogether to keep from prematurely burning out my expensive bulbs, the more light they make the less time they seem to last. :frown:

Just dont cut the green wire and you wont have DRLs

Awesome! Appreciate the speedy replies from you and Blckshdw. Gonna pick up a relay tomorrow, I already have everything else, and then get the DRLs disabled probably Monday evening.

Yep, all the OEM functions of the headlight switch are maintained, lights automatically come on if you're in the shade, or if it's after sundown. Just no DRLs during the day, and no low beams come on when you hit your keyfob when it's dark. I had the same approach as you, didn't want any unnecessary wear on my HIDs. 3 years later, they are still good.

Well, I had some time this evening to have a go at installing the DRL killer. I ended up not even having to buy a relay, just used the one that I took out when I disabled my AIR system that I had laying in my "factory parts from the Envoy" box. Made up some wiring to run to it and mounted it with some double side tape to some metal seat bracketry that doesn't move and doesn't have anything interfering with it, and then proceeded to cut the wires on the expensive looking BCM harness. Boy was that nerve wracking! Finished it all up and got the wires so the fuse box cover would fit over them without rubbing too badly, made a nice clean-looking install. Will try to get some pics up on here soon of the finished install, got excited and forgot to take some along the way. Fired up the vehicle to test it out and it worked EXACTLY like I wanted it to! The DRLs are now disabled, and it was easy! This is an awesome mod for anyone with high output headlights who want to add some service time to those expensive bulbs. Huge thanks go to Blckshdw and Ryda55555, I would've never figured this out or wanted to cut up that wiring harness without them!

Glad everything turned out! Wasnt as hard as you probably thought haha i remember i was terrified to rewire everything too

Here's the (delayed and really poor quality) pics of the install, I chose to use female disconnects that I had for use on a stereo system to slide over the relay terminals, they fit tight and won't vibrate off.

The power wire looks tight in the second pic, but it really isn't. This is one of the best and cheapest mods I have done, it really saves my bulbs plus is a lot easier on the poor battery when unlocking the doors.

Ok now that I have seen it explained this way I can def see myself trying to do this mod. Most likely putting opposite connectors on the pink with white stripe wire so I can reconnect it and pull the relay in case of problems.
