Installing my auto meter transmission temp gauge this weekend. Looks really straight forward, but wanted to know how do connect it so that it will dim with the dash lights when they are adjusted.

Auto Meter harness has 3 wires to connect to the car. A black wire I was going to attach an eyelet to and find a ground spot. A red one I bought a piggy back pigtail type thing for the fuse box. Hopefully any 10a spot that is controlled by the ignition will work, and the white wire that I think controls the dimming. How would you hook that up?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Look for a brown with white striped wire going into a harness for something that lights up when the parking lights are activated. Then splice into it, then you'll be set.

Thanks for the reply! Any pics floating around you have seen?

when you say splice, you mean one of those pieces that push together over a wire to pierce it?

If you download the service manuals from @Mooseman you can look at the wiring diagrams to see exact pin assignments if you need/want them.

While the Scotch lock connectors will work, we don't tend to recommend them.

Cutting back the insulation and soldering is your best bet. Using crimp on connections is a reliable method too.
