So on the way home today my tb was driving along then out no where when it went to shift to 3rd the rpms spiked and it felt like i was going no place.

pulled over checked the fluid and it was extremely low. added about 5 quarts and it took it right up to the hot full line. the fluid didnt smell or look burnt.

now can do 1,2, and R fine, good power just like always go to go into 3rd manually and it revs u to about 4k to maintain 60mph, shift into OD and it dose the same thing.

Is it just not shiffting into 3rd or OD?

is it time that i bite the bullet and max out the credit cards to get a remaned tranny?

My first answer would be a yes. Who knows how long it's been running with 1/3 of its fluid missing, and also where did that fluid go? Interesting that it seems to have shelled 3rd and 4th, instead of having the "limp mode" available. Is the check engine light on?

My second guess which is less likely is the PCM is going bananas.

nope no check engine light, and i did have a tranny line spring a leak a couple weeks back, did the old tried and true high pressure rubber hose and double clamp repair,i thought i put enough fluid back in it but i guess not, i checked it everyday for a week and it seemed fine so i thought i was in the clear.

Generally an electrical fault can be detected and a code given. Hydraulic or mechanical faults, usually not so lucky.

So let's say it's in second and you're up to a decent speed and want to try going faster, does it seem like it stays solidly in 2nd or does it seem kinda like it's in neutral?

I myself am suspecting a 3-4 clutch, they're reported about the net as a common failure and the lack of lubrication may very well have exacerbated the issue, then again you reported the fluid seemed fine in terms of condition. But we'll try running through some diagnosis here first if I can get other people to show up who know a little more than I :rotfl:

If im in second going a decent speed, and throttle up, around 3500 4000k it shifts and rpms go way up and i lose almost all the power.

Until you get back down where second gear should have control again and then you get power again, right? Sounds like a burnt clutch or clutches to me. No idea how the fluid made it out so well if this is the case.

Talked to a tranny guy and he said the same thing,. My brother and i just got it out, taking to my tranny guy tomorrow and should be rebuild and ready to go back in next weekend making out for under 500 parts and labor

That's not too bad considering how much a whole new transmission costs. Doing a full rebuild or just replacing the bad parts?

Well my guy told me that two of the clutchs were shot, about 200$ parts and 200$ labor i think i dodged a huge bullet on this one

Yeah..that's a great deal and a cool friend. Is he replacing the bushings as well?

What I would very strongly recommend while it's out, add a vette servo and the Sonnax super hold servo which go under that large round cap on the RH side of the case. Believe me you want these.

I would also add the PWM eliminator valve for the TCC....this would be 3 excellent upgrades and labor saved.

Thanks for the tip ill give him a call and see what he can do

Well tranny is back in, unfortunately due to budget and time restraints i wasn't able to upgrade the servo. Stopping today to get tranny fluid and I should be in good shape, i did discover what appears to be a leak in a tranny line by the cooler so I think i will be redoing some lines again soon.

did you get the upgraded sunshell and upgraded 3-4 clutch pack?

I got the kit my tranny guy recommend, it was the master kit, so im not sure if those were upgraded to

A 4l60e exchange is $650 here. Torque conv is $150. Used trans are $300 and up. If tech used typical rebuild kit u got all new frictions/steels and gaskets. New bands? Maybe. That low price does not include r&r of course.
