Radio Problems

04 TB LS 4x4, non-Bose radio, everything from factory.

Main speakers keep operating intermittently. Other forums stated to change the speakers, poor quality OEM for base model. I tried to replace LF and figured out after taking speaker out of the door that the new ones are round but the mounting bracket is "maltese" (like a firefighter cross). Adapter is on the way, will try again next week.

Radio is single-CD with Band/CD-Aux buttons, no tape deck. This model wouldn't happen to have a 3.5mm Aux jack on the back, would it? Other forums seem to discuss the Bose model or XM or Onstar or 6-disc changer, I have none of those options installed. I have an XM "Skydock", receives XM through iPod then broadcasts to FM, I would like to connect it directly, came with a 3.5mm male-to-male cord, was hoping since it had the Aux button I could just plug it in to the back of the radio. Band cycles through FM1, FM2, and AM, haven't tried operating a CD yet, but can't set it to Aux as a source. I'm betting I have to buy some module to make the radio think it's real XM, right?

Anyone know if the radio HU is 2 DIN? If it is, and I find that the CD player doesn't work, I may just replace the whole HU with a 1DIN. I have a 2M mobile amateur radio (W9EKG), that I would like to place it in the radio stack.

One more question relating to opening the radio control console. The vent blower fan position switch works in 0-1-2-3 and 5, position 4 causes the blower to shut off. I'm thinking that I need to replace the control switch. Is that relatively easy? I might as well do it if I have the panel off for the radio, right?

I'm not the radio aux input specialist, but I know the HVAC system well. The problem is NEVER the switch, it's the "resistor pack" down behind the glove box in the airflow from the blower motor.

Oh boy, that looks like quite the project. Can live without position 4 for a while, but I would probably want to fix this before it gets more damaged.

There is no aux input, and if the button on the bottom left reads CD/AUX, it's likely because there's other models (not used in TB/Envoy) that DO have Aux and they just paint all the buttons the same to trim costs and reduce inventory.

I really like the idea of putting in an amateur radio. But I'm not giving up my 6-CD Bose for it

I hate the fact the scosche speakers are so cheap, tempted me into multiple days work. Took the door apart, took the old speaker out. Of course the new one won't fit, have to but mounting brackets. Just spent all day today trying to get the speaker into the bracket, got the bracket in the door, window wouldn't roll down all the way. Took it back out, epiphany struck, I had the speaker in the bracket backwards. Of course, the only instructions came with the speakers, not the brackets, and the speaker instructions were 3 steps, take the door off, pull the speaker, and replace it. Arrgh!

And I suspect it won't even sound that good, unless the old system had obvious defects or wear.

Only sound u could get from the factory system was the tweeters, now have one speaker so better than nothing

Left front is done, right front is disassembled, going to solder it now, right rear looks like a completely different mount, thinking about saying f it and get the rears done by pros
