Rear vent glass shot out.

This past weekend the LR vent glass of my '08 Envoy Denali was shattered by some idiot with a BB gun, along with the rear window glass of my '03 Yukon XL.

Since I don't yet have a manual for it (Helm is a little expensive), has anyone out there ever replaced one? Also is the reason they cost so much because they come with the rubber attached?

I've done window glass and regulators before, they are no big deal (and not too expensive), but I've never done the vent glass.

Thanks in advance.

The cost probably isn't in the rubber, but because it's a special (specific) shape that doesn't lend itself to maximizing yield from a sheet of glass, has tint applied, has to meet certain government-standards (maybe?), and may or may not be formed with a bit of a curve.

I don't recall seeing much of anything on glass replacement in the manuals mooseman provides, maybe I missed it. I would think the glazing process would be fairly straight-forward, but I'm likely missing something, but to my knowledge it's of course the rubber that does the sealing, I wouldn't see any need for any other compounds but it's one of those questions that is a good idea to ask before.

Please, PLEASE let us know how it turns out and how it's done when you get it squared away.

Sorry, was away for awhile. Thanks for the replies.

I have $500 deductible also. I have it taped up from the inside, it seems to be holding in so far. Have to wait til I get the money (and it gets a little warmer). I'm going to check some salvage yards, who knows...I may get lucky.

I will update this when it's done, and let you know how it went.

p.s. That's an awsome looking Nomad!!

As northcreek stated above, it's a "Sedan Delivery" model, a basic 2 dr. station wagon, with no glass and no seats other than the front bench. They were a commercial vehicle, used for small load delivery, like grocery orders, car parts, and the like. My late bro-in-law had a buddy who chopped up one of these into a '56 "El Camino", which of course never actually existed, but he made it look like a factory model, an early prototype, if you like. A very cool ride.

It's a 55 Chev SD, they were basic and cheap. Nomads have a totally different top design, radiused rear wheel wells, lots of chrome and were the highest priced Chevys at the time...Mike.
