    oil pressure fluctuates/gas smell

Is the gas smell coming from the engine compartment or exhaust, somewhere else? As to the plug wells, are you torquing the spark plugs to specification? You are running ACDelco 41-103 spark plugs, right? Make sure your fluid levels are topped off. Make sure your air filter isn't clogged. Did you...

P1345 after disconnecting the ECM on my 02 trailblazer

What was he cleaning the engine with? Certain cleaners can muck up/short out electric connections. If I were you I'd go through every connector you can get your hand on, starting with the CPAS connector and clean them with some electrical cleaner, let dry, and put it all back together.

Reduced engine power light outta nowhere

There's really no harm in resetting the PCM if you do it by pulling the PCM fuses (2 of them) in the engine compartment. Sometimes, disconnecting the battery tends to break little bits that are hard to replace in the vent system.

Help with a couple check engine codes?

Compression tests are pretty easy, far easier with two people. You can buy (or maybe even borrow) a compression test kit from your local auto parts shop (autozone, NAPA, etc) for anywhere between 20-$$$$. The cheap ones have served me well for the past few years. -You want to pull the fuel pump...

service engine soon light blinks and engine flutters.

Just because the CPAS rotates doesn't mean it's borked. Check it for oil in the connector or problems in the screens, no need to randomly throw money at it. Something else you may want to check is the wiring for the coils. Sometimes they can develop kinks that create intermittent connections...

    P1400

Wow, yeah, those plugs are due for a change in my opinion. I do mine every 50k as a minimum (maximum?). As for the P1400, I'd look at the O2 sensor on the manifold. P1400 is related to the temperature of the exhaust not being what is expected. Ever changed those O2 sensors since you got the...

    k & n air filters...what's your experience with them.

I've had the PCMofNC tune with a K&N CAI/Filter and I can honestly say if I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't have done it. There's quite a bit more engine noise and I don't notice enough of a performance increase to justify the price/time spent (on the CAI, the tune is great). I'm...

How to clean your throttle body

Part 2, now in technicolor! Step 9: Unplug the two connectors from the throttle body. Step 10: Remove the four bolts mounting the throttle body. Okay, now you have your throttle body freed up. Gently wiggle it out and grab your can of cleaner. Mine wasn't really dirty but did have a...

How to clean your throttle body

If this looks like it was copied from the-site-that-should-not-be-named, you're right. I wrote it in the first place and saw little reason to reinvent the wheel. Should be renamed "How to clean your 4.2L I6 Throttle Body". Maybe someone can fix this... Difficulty: Ages 8 and up (warning, small...

Stock parts @ 160k miles, what should I replace before it breaks?

Hah! You remember correct, sir. I wonder if that article ever made it's way over here It is now... To the other Bill (05EnvySLT), I like your item checklist, and I'm going to check that air injection solenoid today. Though I would also suggest checking the CPAS for gunk/screen damage/oil in the...

Stock parts @ 160k miles, what should I replace before it breaks?

Thanks Roadie, I kinda figured as much, just wanted some confirmation. No worries here on fluids, either.

Stock parts @ 160k miles, what should I replace before it breaks?

As the title states, I have almost all stock parts (sans shocks, did those about 10k ago) with about 160k miles on em. What should I replace, as a preventative measure, before they break? Nothing seems wrong with it suspension/steerage-wise, which makes me worry just a bit because I see others...

Blip of the Check Engine Light

Mine's had the phantom CEL blip for years too without any seemingly possible cause. On occasion, though, this will occur while braking and while the CEL blips on, the pedal will shake as well as if ABS is going nuts. Haven't seen any ill effects yet.

A/C always on, even if I don't want it

Defrost was on, I never knew that engaged A/C. Thanks! Now I gotta go apologize to my TB for unnecessary surgery...

A/C always on, even if I don't want it

I have noticed recently that the A/C is always on, even if the switch is off. If I open the hood, sure enough the silver pipe across the engine and the silver cylinder next to the coolant tank are cold and dripping condensation. This isn't normal right? I pulled the A/C mini-relay and it went...
