Specific GMOS-01 Questions

Hello to all,

I have searched the Forums on this site, which is awesome, but can't find an answer to these questions specifically.

I have a few questions about installing an Axxess GMOS-01 in my 2006 Trailblazer. I am installing a Pioneer DEH-6600BT HU. The truck is the Non-Bose, unamplified with Onstar. I am not currently installing an Amp. Just need the stock speakers to work and retain chimes, alerts, etcetera. Unfortunately my electrical system was hacked up by the previous owner and I am reaping the rewards

. I have repaired the factory harnesses that were cut out to install the Pioneer HU that came with the vehicle (that did not work properly anyways). The idea being I could wire in the GMOS-01 and have it plug in per the instructions and provided harnesses and have it be a "simple" install, yeah right! The new stereo is not turning on at all.

The 16 pin harness that plugs into the GMOS-01 has 2 red wires that both say 12v/switched and are the same shade of red. The instructions say "Connect the Red wire (singular) to the ignition wire of the aftermarket radio." Called tech support and they said to connect them both. My questions are as follows:

1) Should I use a switched 12v from another source and connect it to both red wires from the 16 pin harness as well as the red wire from the radio harness? If not how should I wire it up? It is my understanding that with the new interface I do Not have to source a switched 12v supply. ( I am leaning towards this unit being defective )

2) There are 2 orange wires coming from the factory wiring harness going to the original factory harnesses. One is the constant power for the radio. The second is a noticeably smaller gauge, yet same color, wire that I can't find a home for. Where does this wire need to go? Is it a serial data bus wire or a dash illumination wire?

I am also trying to get the factory door locks / key FOBs to work again after removing the most poorly executed alarm system I have ever seen installed. Any info on the passlock / factory anti-theft system would be quite useful and much appreciated. I can't program the FOBs because I think the integrity of this system has been compromised. Not sure if there was a GM interface that might have been removed.

Thanks in advance for any help

Best advice I can give you is to download the manuals in my sig. They have the complete wiring diagrams and should be able to help you out with your wiring issues.

For the FOBs, since your truck is an LS (Less Stuff), did it come with those FOBs? When you try to program a FOB, what does the truck do?

for the red wires.... "A lot of people are confused as to why there are two red (ignition) wires on the 16 pin harness of the GMOS-01. It is there in case you are using the ASWC. Connect one to your HU harness (doesn't matter which). Then connect the ASWC's harness red wire to other red wire in the 16 pin harness. Tape/cap it off if not using"

Thanks Moose Man and Cool as Ice, appreciate the replies. Since I connected both red wires (as instructed, :duh: ) going to the HU and I have no power at the radio I think I either sent 24v into the unit and blew the fuse on the back of it, no other fuses are blown, or the GMOS-01 I have is a dud! Can you think of any other possibilities? I'm kind of sick of opening the dash up and will arm myself with your collective knowledge! My Wife is all like I thought installing a radio is easy, hahaha, It's supposed to be, well it used to be. I miss my 84 Cutlass Supreme!

As for the FOBs they did not come with the vehicle. It had one from the aftermarket alarm. I checked the part numbers and ordered the ones that should work. When I put it into the programming mode the locks cycle like they are supposed to but cycle again immediately and don't let me program at all. If someone knows the RPO code I can check the glove box decal.

Thanks again Guys, your help is greatly appreciated :hail:

Moose Man, please forgive my ignorance, I'm a Noob here! What is a SIG?

If you're on a computer, it's the text below his post. It'll be below the quote or like buttons.

I haven't been on via computer in a while but I think it says "need service manuals? Get them here!"

When you find that, click on it and it'll take you to his post explaining how to get them.

BTW (By The Way), Sig is short for Signature.

I hope your wiring wasn't too hacked by the previous owner. It's always a PITA to fix someone else's bad work.

PITA= Pain In The Ass

It's been a Nightmare to be honest but I do Love this truck so it's definitely worth it. Thanks for the manual link Mooseman, It's been invaluable! :lightbulb:

Impossible fyi, it would merely just be 12v

I hear you about the nightmare. I have the scars to prove it. They are nice trucks though. People question why I keep it or even buy another one (Saab 9-7x 5.3L).

Hello to all, just wanted to update this thread for future use. The 2 red wires on the GMOS-01 16 pin harness do indeed need to be connected together. One wire is switched power for the radio in the On position, the other is switched power for the radio in Acc. position. The small gauge orange wire was indeed a serial II data bus wire. That wire goes into the A1 slot on connector C1 (24 pin radio harness). One note; the Metra Reverse Wiring Harness 71-2103-1 I used was all mixed up as far as the pin-out arrangement. Had to un-pin all the slots and match them to the harness from the GMOS-01. The radio, chimes, alerts, and OnStar all work properly now. Thanks for everyone who helped and if you are having a problem with this interface send me a message and I will try to help. I know this interface better than I wanted to

Late to this party but Obi Juan's post just saved my bacon. Wiring up a GMOS-01 and didn't know if the two red wires needed connecting together. Now I do.

(CD in the OEM unit died and for the cost to get it fixed I got a Pioneer FH-X820BS.)
